Hybrid Courtrooms Boardroom AV Solution

Modern judicial proceedings demand technology that can bridge physical and virtual presence without compromising fairness, clarity, or control.

The StreamSync Hybrid Courtrooms Solution is purpose-built to meet the unique challenges of today’s courtrooms, where judges, attorneys, jurors, and remote participants all need to stay connected. With StreamSync, courts can conduct trials and hearings that combine in-person and remote attendance seamlessly, ensuring that justice is served without delay or technical distraction.
Our solution simplifies the management of courtroom AV, enabling court IT teams to focus on the proceedings rather than wrestling with complex gear. StreamSync brings reliability, security, and ease-of-use to hybrid judiciary settings, making it easier to uphold courtroom protocol in a high-tech world.

In a hybrid courtroom scenario, multiple video feeds and audio channels must work in harmony: cameras for the judge, witness stand, defense and prosecution tables, evidence presentation screens, and possibly remote witness video feeds – plus numerous microphones around the courtroom.

StreamSync integrates all these inputs into one cohesive system. It maps video and audio sources so that every participant is seen and heard clearly, whether they are in the courtroom or joining via video conference. For example, as a remote witness testifies via a video call, StreamSync can bring that feed into the courtroom displays and simultaneously into the record, alongside local camera feeds. When an attorney presents evidence from a laptop or document camera, StreamSync allows real-time annotation on that evidence – highlighting details for emphasis – which can be shown to all parties including jurors and remote viewers. Crucially, StreamSync maintains a secure and compliant environment: it can record proceedings for the official record (or feed a separate recording system) with all sources timestamped and combined, aiding in compliance with court recording regulations and chain-of-custody for evidence.

Key Benefits for Courtrooms

Seamless Hybrid Proceedings:

StreamSync makes remote and in-person participants feel equally present in the courtroom. Judges can see and address remote defendants or witnesses on large courtroom monitors, and remote participants can view a composite feed of the courtroom action. The system handles all the switching – so when the focus shifts from one speaker to another, StreamSync ensures the video switches too, just as if everyone were physically in one room. This seamless integration upholds the continuity of proceedings, even when participants are distributed.

Enhanced Evidence Presentation:

Courtrooms often deal with diverse evidence media – from paper documents shown via document cameras to digital evidence like videos or images. StreamSync enables BYOD evidence presentation, allowing attorneys to plug in a laptop or even cast wirelessly to share evidence exhibits. Once displayed, the annotation tools let you mark-up evidence (circling an area on a photo, highlighting a line of text) live in front of the judge and jury. This ensures clarity in evidence review and is far more engaging and clear than verbal descriptions alone.

Reliable and Secure Recording:

Compliance and record-keeping are paramount in judicial settings. StreamSync can output a unified feed of all audio/video to a recording device or secure server, so there is a single, complete record of the proceeding that includes every camera angle and every piece of presented evidence. By eliminating the need for multiple encoder devices, StreamSync reduces the risk of technical failure that could jeopardize a recording. Additionally, all data stays on the court’s network; there’s no cloud component, aligning with security protocols.

Simplified Tech for Court Staff:

Court IT and AV specialists appreciate StreamSync’s all-in-one design. Rather than managing separate video routers, audio mixers, and streaming boxes, they have one interface to route video and audio to the right places (judge’s bench monitor, jury display, public stream, etc.). The intuitive control panel can be learned quickly, meaning less training for courtroom deputies or staff to operate the system. When a hearing begins, it’s as simple as selecting the preset “Arraignment” or “Jury Trial” profile and StreamSync automatically pulls up the needed feeds and layouts – minimizing delays.

Integration with Courtroom AV Systems:

Most modern courtrooms already have some AV infrastructure – monitors, speakers, perhaps a control system like Crestron. StreamSync is built to integrate, not replace, those investments. It can feed audio into existing sound reinforcement and assistive listening systems via Dante®, and connect with control systems for one-touch operation through the courtroom’s touch panel. It’s also compatible with evidence management software that outputs video, ensuring StreamSync can ingest any video source used in the court (from CCTV feeds to video conferencing units). The result is a cohesive system where StreamSync fills the gaps and ties everything together.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does StreamSync ensure confidentiality and compliance during closed sessions or private conferences?
StreamSync’s audio/video routing can be finely controlled. In a closed session or sidebar, you can configure the system such that the feed to the public or recording is muted or replaced with hold music/slate, while keeping the conversation local. Since all routing is done internally, there’s no risk of an accidental live mic going out over a video call or stream. This helps maintain confidentiality. Additionally, StreamSync’s logs and recordings can be used to demonstrate compliance – for example, showing that no unauthorized audio left the system during a sealed proceeding.
Our court already uses a video conferencing tool for remote hearings. Can StreamSync work with it?
StreamSync is often used in conjunction with video conferencing software/hardware. Think of StreamSync as the central AV hub in the courtroom: it takes the output of your video conferencing codec (like a laptop running Zoom or a dedicated Polycom unit) as one input and feeds it to displays and to the record. At the same time, it sends the necessary courtroom camera feeds and audio into that conferencing tool. It’s complementary – not a replacement – to your video conference, making sure that what’s seen/heard over Zoom or similar is the proper mix of courtroom AV. This unified approach prevents scenarios like a remote participant only seeing the judge and not the evidence display, or vice versa.
Will implementing StreamSync require a lot of changes to our current courtroom AV setup?
StreamSync is designed for minimal disruption. It can utilize your existing cameras (especially if they output NDI or can be connected via encoders) and existing sound system (via Dante or analog-to-Dante adapters). Installation usually involves adding the StreamSync unit to your network and rerouting your AV sources through it. We provide configuration for common courtroom layouts, so your integrator or IT staff can map inputs/outputs logically (e.g., which feed goes to the jury’s monitor, which goes to the lobby display, etc.). In many cases, courts can continue using their current microphones, speakers, and displays – StreamSync just becomes the intelligent core that links them.
How does StreamSync handle evidence that needs to be presented to only certain parties (like the judge, but not the jury)?
StreamSync’s output matrix can send different content to different outputs simultaneously. If an attorney needs to show the judge something privately (for admissibility, for example), the system can route the evidence feed only to the judge’s screen while holding a different image (or nothing) on the jury’s screens. Once the judge approves, with a single command the feed can then be sent to all displays. This flexibility is extremely useful for maintaining legal procedure – it’s like having an electronic curtain that can be lifted or drawn for evidence viewing.
Is StreamSync “court-proven”? Have other courts used this technology?
Yes, StreamSync is already in use in multiple courtrooms and legal environments. It was designed in collaboration with court technology experts (our parent company BEINCOURT focuses on courtroom tech) to address real-world needs. Early adopters include court systems that have piloted hybrid hearings and remote testimony programs. They have found that StreamSync significantly reduces AV issues during proceedings and improves overall participation quality.
